Frequently Asked Questions

General FAQs

1. What does Driver Representation & Advocacy (DRA) do?

We assist private hire drivers with licence renewals and fitness reviews with licensing authorities. We also provide guidance on assessments like SERU.

2. Who can use your services?

We work with private hire drivers licensed in the UK, including those licensed by Transport for London (TfL).

3. How do I get started?

Complete our contact form or email us at support@dra.org.uk. We aim to respond within 48 hours.

4. Are your services free?

We are a not-for-profit organisation. Some services are free, while others may involve a modest fee to cover administrative costs. We’ll always explain this up front.

Representation & Casework

1. Why is my licensing authority asking about past incidents?

They may have concerns about your conduct, such as driving offences, complaints, or other matters. This is part of checking if you remain a “fit and proper” person to hold a licence. We can help you respond appropriately. Simply contact us through our casework form

2. What kind of documents should I prepare for my case?

We’ll advise based on your situation, but usually you’ll need your licence, any letters from TfL or your licensing authority, and any relevant medical or criminal history documents.

Licensing & Renewals

1. I’ve submitted my renewal application, but it’s delayed. Can you help?

Yes. We can follow up with your licensing authority and help you understand your rights during the delay.

2. My licence has expired — can I still drive?

In most cases, you must stop driving once your licence expires unless you have a valid temporary licence. Contact us for tailored advice.

SERU Assessment

1. What is the SERU assessment?

SERU (Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding) is a TfL-mandated test for private hire drivers. It ensures you understand key rules and responsibilities.

3. Do I need to take the SERU test?

Yes, if you're applying for or renewing your licence and haven’t already passed it. We can help you understand if it applies to you.

3. How can I prepare for the SERU test?

Visit our SERU preparation page for resources, sample questions, and guidance.
